Attack Leaves Leo in Stitches

Leonardo DiCaprio might think twice before attending another party held by Paris Hilton's sex-tape costar, Rick Salomon.

As the actor departed a Hollywood Hills gathering hosted by the 1 Night in Paris player in the wee hours of Friday morning, he was bashed in the face by a woman wielding what appeared to be a beer bottle.

DiCaprio was left bleeding from a gash near his ear. Friends drove The Aviator star to the hospital, where he received about a dozen stitches.

According to DiCaprio's publicist, Ken Sunshine, the actor was not the original target of the woman's attack.

"While leaving a small private gathering, Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing and had been repeatedly asked to leave the property," Sunshine said in a statement. "The attacker struck him with a glass object before being restrained by witnesses. The woman was reportedly looking for an ex-boyfriend, who she had apparently physically assaulted on prior occasions."

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, DiCaprio did not file a police report and therefore no investigation is in progress.

There has been no word on whether Salomon captured the incident on film.

DiCaprio was visiting Los Angeles while on a break from shooting Martin Scorsese's The Departed in Boston and New York. The incident is not expected to affect his return to the set.

The plot of The Departed, a remake of a trio of Chinese films, revolves around the rivalry between an Irish-American gang and the Boston Police Department. Beantown natives Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg also star.

The movie marks the third DiCaprio-Scorsese collaboration, following 2002's Gangs of New York and 2004's The Aviator.

Both films were nominated for 11 Academy Awards but yielded no Oscars for either DiCaprio or Scorsese.

Hopefully for the talented twosome, the third time's the charm, but if not, plans for a fourth joint venture are reportedly in the works.
